In my experience, dogs produce more odors at the beginning and end of their lives. Whether it’s incontinence dogs due to age or illness, or potty accidents indoors during puppy coop training, life in a smelly kennel is getting old. Right now I like to think our house doesn’t stink, at least not like urine and stuff. However, it’s always good to find new ways to keep the house stink-free. Stinky Dogs R Us – Sometimes
This is the first February in 3 years that we haven’t had a foster pup (or more) in the house. In 2019 it was Mr. Stix. In 2020 it was Baby Lark (who was left in the night box at our shelter at a very young age). In 2022 we hosted the Box of Chocolates litter: Cocoa Puff, Carmella and Chocula. Unfortunately, with the recent canine attack, this year is just too busy to juggle extra puppies around the house.
So the next time we have foster babies in the house, I’ll have to write another article on live smell free products for smelly dogs.
There were 2 tiny tiny bottle baby foster pug puppies that needed a home recently but I chose self care over heroics.
So current stinky dog strategies
So for now I’m using the smaller spray bottle to atomize the air around the house and also over the various dog beds in my office and living room.
Next time I do a load of smelly dog wash I’ll spray and soak the comforters and such, let them sit for about 10 minutes before washing with our regular unscented laundry soap. I will update/report back to this post. Stay tuned.
While I’ve been loving a well-scented candle lately, I remain hypersensitive to household products with too much fragrance or intrinsic scent to mask odors. I can feel my eyes squinting even as I walk down the dry cleaning/laundry supply aisle in stores. I loathe the new laundry detergents that make scents so strong they last forever—even after multiple washes with unscented detergent, even after hanging out in the sun and wind. I’m looking at you Gain. It makes shopping at thrift stores a challenge because many of these items reek of detergent and it takes forever to remove the stench.
